This is a rather ambiguous thread.
I've been doing a review marathon on my Toonzone blog and have lately been frustrated by the my need to form a review so not to spoil or mislead a reader. Along with that, I just want a thread to give an opinion without the need to stretch it out.
Example; "Mark Wahlberg was nominated for a Golden Globe in for The Fighter....did anyone see him in The Other Guys?....FAIL!!!!!" I don't really want to elaborate any further other than to say that I HATED The Other Guys.
On the flip side, I've been keeping up with a couple top fifty films of all time countdowns and thought it would be fun to do my own. But in truth, I don't feel like I've seen enough classic films to really have a solid list that would drastically change in a few months time. So I managed to got a sweet deal with a dvd rent site and have been hiring out classics that the local store just doesn't have. So my ongoing goal is to hopefully update in this forum my progress and up to you guys a couple questions or perhaps a random trivia question.
Ironically I intend to do a lot more with this thread, but my stance on zero filterage is staying and I just hope it becomes clear. Side note: I don't just want contain this to only films, I'll randomly recommend TV shows or game and so forth. I also want you lot to pitch in, if you hate something and don't want to go through the hassle of form a coherent and logical review *Cough* Last Airbender *Cough* go ahead and shout it out below

Random Thought: the boatload of exposition is slightly jarring on the Inception re-watch. Side Note: My dad bought a blu-ray player, might come up sometime, dunno.

And if you hadn't guessed already, this is my attempt at trying to revive this forum from it's comatosed state, which means POST ANY THING I FREAKING WANT IN THIS THREAD, short or long, I don't care, I think this sites problem is we wait for someone else to say something and then comment and we're all waiting around!!!!

HEY, tell me which is your favourite Pixar film? I want a consensus!
Personally, it changes depending on which I've seen more recently. It was Monster Inc. for awhile, and then The Incredibles started gaining on it, but as of now it is firmly Finding Nemo!

Hmm you know this is kind of hard but roughly my order looks something like this.
1. Toy Story 3 2. Toy Story 2 3. Finding Nemo 4. The Incredibles 5. WALL-E 6. Up 7. Toy Story 8. Cars 9, Monster's Inc 10. Ratatouille 11. A Bug's Life
Not the most accurate list as a lot of these are tied, but there you go. I haven't seen Cars 2 yet, although I've heard mixed things and its the first Pixar film to get a "Rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes so I'm not holding my breath.

I flip between Toy Story 1 & 3. Also, you should see Cars 2 - it's not up to par with Pixar's other films, but the negative reviews are mainly just critics thinking if they give Pixar unanimously positive reviews, they'll lose their credibility. It's actually a really fun movie which reinvents the spy genre to work WITH CARS!!
1-2. Toy Story 1/3 3. The Incredibles 4. Finding Nemo 5. Up 6. Ratatouille 7. Monsters, Inc. 8. WALL-E 9. Cars 10. Toy Story 2 11. Cars 2 12. A Bug's Life (haven't seen in a while)

Cool, I think it's a tribute to Pixar's brilliance that none of our lists are remotely similar.
Any-who, I saw Strangers on a Train a couple days ago, it was great and it grew on me even more as I after watching it. Along with that, I've seen Memento, Murder on the Orient Express, 12 Angry Men, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Man Who Knew Too Much over the past wee while.
And while some of these I enjoyed more than others, they are all pretty good. But I was wondering, is film there a film you've seen that had so much hype and when you watched it, you feel disappointed, not because the film was bad, but because you had preposterous expectations?
As an example, I know Cradleman doesn't love Gone with the Wind.

It's true none of our list are similar (expect for the fact we all put poor Bug's Life on the bottom).
As for films that I had high expectations for and felt didn't live up I'd have to say: -Jaws: It's probably not anyone's all time favorite but a lot of people remember it fondly; I'm not one of them because I couldn't get past the improabability of the situation (Shark's don't attack like that!) coupled with some of the more dated effects.
-A lot of horror movies that are billed as the "scary" fail to actually do anything other than give me something to make fun of clitches in. I know oppions vary on Parnormal Activity as it is: but good god that was a waste of movie! I liked When a Stranger Calls-because I was able to do a running commentary on what would happen. The same for A Haunting in Connecuit (although I don't think I'm alone in that case). -How to Train Your Dragon is supposed to be one of Dreamsworks best films and even *gasp* worthy of being competition to Pixar. While I did like it, I won't being putting it on my list of best animated movies anytime soon.
-I should have proabably billed this one with my other scary movies but whatever. The Birds is a dumb movie. Yes, Alfred Hitchock directed it. So what? It's clitche and based around a dumb presime that is never explained. All species of birds are attacking people. Why? WHO THE HECK KNOWS? THE SCRIPT SURE DOESN'T!!!!!! Being a big name with success behind your name does not guarantee success in everything you do (yes George Lucas, that was directed at you too).

It's true none of our list are similar (expect for the fact we all put poor Bug's Life on the bottom). True, but I think that's more because it wasn't as memorable as the most of the others, which I suspect is why Ratatouille also didn't make it that high on most of our lists. Or just because one of us have seen it in quiet some time, I know I have sat through the whole thing in years. Random Fact: On average, more people are killed by Cow and Coconuts every year that are by Sharks. -How to Train Your Dragon is supposed to be one of Dreamsworks best films and even *gasp* worthy of being competition to Pixar. While I did like it, I won't being putting it on my list of best animated movies anytime soon. While my siblings were watching this I sat in on about 5 mins here or there, so i wasn't fooled, although the film is pretty good, it's nowhere near Pixar greatness. Personally, Happy Feet really pissed me off. It was seriously boring, lame, unoriginal and yet somehow grabbed the Best Animated Feature Oscar. While I'd admit that Cars wasn't Pixar's best film, the Oscar really should've gone to Monster House. Ummm, what another?....well there's Watchmen, for obvious reasons. No wait? people hate it for different reasons than I do. The actors felt like they were lifeless and the pace was agonisingly slow.

Oh yeah, Happy Feet, forgot about about that one. It A) Cashed in on the Peguins are Cute thing B) Had a pretty standard "you're good enough the way you are" aseop we've seen a million times and C) was far too heavy handed in its enviormental aseop (enviormentalism is great and I'm all for it, just stop being so heavy handed!).

Overrated movies? Sure, loads of 'em! Most overrated movie of all time: The Godfather Part II. I thought Part I was great (though also overrated, not as much as it actually was a good movie), but Part II was seriously boring. It's basically Francis Ford Coppola said, "Hey! You know those last 60 seconds of The Godfather? I'm gonna extend that into a three-and-a-half hour movie! And people are going to think it's just as good even though it's really long and boring and redundant!" Remember, this is considered by many to be one of THE greatest movies of all time.
I also still think The Departed is really overrated. I liked it until the ending, which kinda just ruined it for me.... I've never cared for The Searchers either, and still think Blade Runner was really boring (despite having a cool villain). The list goes on and on, but I think those are the biggest movies I found overrated. Oh, and Dracula didn't age well. It's funny though.

still think Blade Runner was really boring (despite having a cool villain). Yeah, I'm going to agree with you there. I tried, but I only about an hour in and I got side tracked and I don't care enough to watch the rest. Am I allowed to say True Blood? ahh heck! this is my thread!

watched Blade Runner for the first time tonight. seen the first part before but never seen the whole thing. plot-wise i enjoyed it and thought it was very intriguing and suspenseful. however, it was very very slow moving. if scott could have kept it moving at a faster pace and improved the slow scenes, it would have been a great film. as it it, it was good but just too darn slow to be great film. 8.1/10

To anyone who cares, I got Dr. Who season 1 in the mail, so I've haven't been able to watch any classics over the past week or so. Though I will throw a question out there, the Pixar verse Dreamwork situation is an interesting one, thing is, not many people actually side with DW and I'm pretty sure all of us on here would stray from that consensus. So I thought I'd compare the other two minor american Animation studios that have popped up over the last decade; Blue Sky Studios and Sony Pictures Animation. To anyone who needs a list of both studios respective films.
Blue Sky Studios Ice Age Robots Ice Age: The Meltdown Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who! Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs Rio
Sony Pictures Animation Open Season Surf's Up Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Looking at these lists, I'm fairly impressed by the fact there are no really bad movies on here, Open Season might be up for debate, but still.
It's a slightly hard choice for me because I was pleasantly surprised by Surf's Up, mainly because I avoided it after Happy Feet and that they used Shia Labeouf's slacker demeanour to their advantage and Jon Heder as s stoner chicken is funny, not matter how you look at it. Plus I seriously loved Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs more than I should have, so much in fact I bought the DVD and it's been viewed a good 10 times, by member of my family and or friends. Thing is, Sony had a hand in this year Smurf's movie and Blue Sky really has a longer and more consistent resumé.
I haven't actually seen Rio, but I hadn't heard anything bad about it yet. But Robots (Seriously underrated), the Ice Age trilogy and Horton Hears a Who? are a solid bunch of flicks. Thoughts people?
