I'm assuming that I can't post this with the episode talkbacks for Young Justice so I'm putting it here.
Young Justice and X-Men Evolution are about teams consisting of teenage superheroes, and in both cases, the team doesn't form fully until 6-7 episodes in. What does everyone think about how both shows have set the ball rolling, since that approach is fairly unique to shows of this type? (In other superhero shows, the team tends to be fully formed before or during the opening story.)
It's interesting because the first season of X-Men Evolution doesn't tend to receive much love compared to the later seasons and tends to be considered as mediocre overall (which is also how a lot of people perceive the first season of Justice League).
I know it's still early days for Young Justice, but with the series still taking shape it's probably the right time for this thread.

Mm.... Not sure if I'd group Evo and Justice together on that point. X-Men Evo would spend an episode simply incorporating a new member into the roster, and keep doing so throughout the season. Young Justice really only has one episode like that - the one tonight. The pilot was the "team coming together," and now they only have one member to add on.
But yeah, I like seeing the team build up like that, especially in X-Men. It allows for more expanded introductions of each character.

although the first season of X-men: Evo did tend to have weaker episodes at times, i have always felt it was almost a necessary evil. yeah, the plots weren't always amazing, BUT it did get you more involved with each character, helped you to relate to and care for them. that way when the stakes got raised in seasons 3 and 4, your emotional investment in each and every one of the characters helped plots that WERE great seem even better.
As for YJ compared to Evo, i'd agree with spidey, although we have already gotten a superboy centric episode and an artemis centric episode tonight. if we get centric episodes for the others (and they are as strong as the superboy centric ep last week) then it'll be a great thing for later eps, because they will have done what evo did with getting the audience to care about the characters even more than they usually would in a show about a super hero team.

Good point. The first season did feel quite formulaic, but it cemented the viewers' attachment to the characters for the later seasons. Greg Weisman said on Ask Greg that he considers episodes 3-8 to be episodes that focus on a different members of the team, so I guess episode 3 was about Miss Martian and episode 4 was about Aqualad(?) since he assumed leadership in Robin's place... As you said, episodes 5 and 6 were about Superboy and Artemis, and it's known that episode 7 will be about Kid Flash. Presumably episode 8 will be about Robin. I think the show needs to strike the right balance between team episodes and stories that focus on a particular team member. Take Teen Titans for example: 5 team members, and in each season, each member would get at least one spotlight episode (though it was usually two spotlight episodes...), with team episodes as well, and a story arc focusing on a particular member for each season. Wonder if Young Justice will conform to that format in time.

You know to be honest, I perfer character development to action. You need both of course, (which is part of the reason season one Evo was lackluster, the fights were really just shoehorned in there), but as you guys already said it'd be nice to really "know" the characters. Their backstory, their motivation, etc. The point is though, I really wouldn't mind if they cut a scene or two of fighting from an episode so we could say...explore Clark's reasons for not embracing Superboy a bit more or see more of the heros out of costume or at least doing their solo stuff (Dick especially, he makes a crack about the batcave being crowed at one point...does that mean Batgirls already around? Why haven't we met her yet if she is?).
