Episode 1: Pilot
Have you ever wanted to be something when you grew up, and then when you actually did it, you realized how much stress it put on your life?
My name is Kyle Warner, and I play a lead role in the drama TV show, “Life”. I’ve wanted to act ever since I was eight. I played small roles in random episodes of random television shows, but never actually got a lead. Until someone by the name of Matt Dawson approached me, offering a lead role in some show he had. At first I was like hell yeah! The show was a big hit instantly. Taking a time slot on NBC, the viewers we’re flowing quickly.
That was just the first season; the second season is when the acting got harder and harder. The producers brought in a girl. I figured cool, new people to act with. I already acted with two people I’ve grown real close to, Ann Kuren and Dwayne Rolle.
I remember the first time I saw her. She walked into the studio with her red duffle bag. She had blonde hair that came down to her shoulders, dark red painted on her lips, and sunglasses that covered her eyes. I walked up to her instantly, and introduced her to the crew and myself. Her name was Alicia Farrow, but everyone just calls her Ally or Al. How did she change my life? Well…
“Dude, are you narrating again?”
Kyle turns around revealing his shaggy dark brown, almost black, hair. He was 25 years old. And standing in the doorway is Dwayne. He was a 23 year old black man, he was about 6 foot, normal build, and a buzz cut sat atop his head.
“I told you, it’s a video diary…I’m making it for all the fans when I die”
“Yes, because all of your fans would love to watch an hour of you crying over your would, and should be girlfriend.”
“You know why I can’t be with her, it’s too hard”
“That’s what she said…”
“Dude, you have to stop it with the Office.”
“I can’t, it really gets me into acting mode every day, and Steve Carell is like my idol when it comes to TV.”
“And yet, your part of the reason his show as less viewers.”
“Irony is part of television”
“Any reason you came in here, besides to mock me and tell me old jokes?”
“Yeah, the director wants to see us before our next shoot tonight.”
“Okay, shut the door on the way out.”
Dwayne leaves, leaving the door cracked, and peeking through.
Now where was I, oh yeah, so the reason things are weird between us is because her character…
Kyle is interrupted by a burst of laughter. Kyle turns around to see Dwayne laughing his ass off. He walks over and slams the door, locking it.
Meanwhile…
On the set of the TV show, “Life” we have a living room set, cameras surround the set, along with mics. The director sits in his chair. His name was Nate Miller. The forty-one year old director wore glasses and a hat over his short brown hair, and his green eyes. He had a five o’ clock shadow growing and a goatee under his lip. He held papers in his hand, while watching the scene as two ladies played it out.
The woman sitting on the couch was Ann Huren. She had red hair, and wore glasses over her brown eyes. She was known around as the actor with a voice, being a great singer. Her character in the TV show was Diana.
The woman standing up to the right of her was Alicia, and her role in the show was a girl by the name of Ashley.
“I don’t know what to do, Diana…I never expected him to ask me to marry him. I was struck; I didn’t know what to say!”
“Well, what did you say?”
“I said I had to think it over.”
“You know that he’s thinking its over, right?”
“What?”
“You can’t tell a guy I’ll have to think about it, if he asks you to marry him, then he is so sure that you’ll say yes!”
“I really screwed this up, didn’t I?” Ashley sits down on the couch next to her.”
“Do you really love this man?”
“Yes…with all my heart.”
“Then call him…meet him, and say yes.”
Ashley smiles, and gives Diana a hug, “Thanks, sis, I don’t know what I’d do without you!”
“You’d probably be boyfriend-less.” She smiles.
“Cut!” the director yells out. The actresses walk off of the stage, a man comes by and gives them two water bottles.
“That was great girls! Alicia, I loved your emotion there, freaked out, nervous…beautiful!”
“Thank you.” She replied
Kyle and Dwayne walk out to the director, “You wanted to see us?”
“Yes, please follow me!”
Kyle and Dwayne follow Nate into his office area.
“Listen, I’m going to need your guy’s help big time on this.”
“What is it?”
Nate smiles nervously, not knowing how they’ll react.
LATER…
Dwayne walks out of a Laundromat carrying a pair of pants inside of a plastic cover. Kyle waits in the car, which is a 2010 ford mustang.
“I can’t believe he made us do this…” Dwayne says, throwing the pants in the back of the convertible.
“Hey careful, we drove out here for these, we don’t want them wrinkled.”
Dwayne gives him a dirty look.
“Hey, the guy had no pants left except for the one’s he spilt taco sauce on…I mean; do you want the guy to walk around with no pants on?”
Dwayne looks over to him and Kyle says quickly, “Never mind, don’t answer that.”
He starts the car up and they drive back to the studio
BACK AT THE STUDIO…
Kyle walks in the door as the director walks out of his office in his boxers. “Here, wear this.” Dwayne throws the pants at Nate.
Kyle walks over to the shoot where Alicia and Casey stand in a restaurant stage. Make-up people surround them, getting them ready for the next scene.
“Shit, I don’t want to watch this.” Kyle leaves the staging area, back into his privacy room. Dwayne follows him into his room, where he sits in a revolving chair.
“Dude, you can’t get upset about this, it’s just acting! Nobody cares if their girlfriend or boyfriend has on stage relationships!”
“Maybe that’s why there are so many break-ups in Hollywood! Look, I don’t want to be that person, it’s too awkward for me!”
“Then there’s no chance for you two, and you can quit whining about it!”
Kyle turns around looking into the mirror as Dwayne leaves.
Yes…that’s why I can’t be with her…she has her little on-stage romance with Casey…or his character Harper. I love this girl, we’re like best friends, and I want to be more, but, it’s so weird just to watch a scene with them both in it. You can’t tell me Brad Pitt gets jealous when Angelina Jolie has a sex scene with another guy…maybe that’s a bad example.
I don’t want to be like them, I want a normal relationship with a normal girl, maybe that means I can’t star in a TV show, then…maybe that means I have to give up my dream of being a star, which is half-way true already…maybe Dwayne is right.
Nate knocks on the door, and then opens it, you got five minutes, your character, Ian, better be ready for some action.
Yeah, there’s action…Ian and Jacoby, Dwayne’s character, get into a fight over the ownership of some bar they used to go to in Season 1. The bar owner was murdered, and now we fight over it, little do out characters know that the murder will come back to haunt us.
Kyle leaves the dressing room, all in character with his hat, leather jacket, and ripped jeans.
Am I anything like Ian? Well, let’s see, I’ve never been drunk, I’m still a virgin, and I’ve never been to jail! You wouldn’t believe the episodes my character has been through!
Meanwhile…
Ann sits down in her dressing room listening to her music.
I’m Ann Huren, I’m 24 years old, and yeah, I like music a lot. I sing, I dance, I listen to it, pretty much anything that has to do with music. Truth be told, music was probably higher on my list then acting. At 18 I auditioned for American Idol. I made it to the top 70 or something, but was cut. I didn’t sing much afterwards. I did sing at a few jazz clubs downtown, but it was just for the job. My acting career started when I auditioned for a Dove commercial.
I guess the producer, Matt Dawson, saw something in me he wanted for his show; either that or he just thought I was pretty.
As for my normal life, I am happily engaged to Jonathan Crayton. We dated for six months, and have been engaged for two! We’re hoping for a wedding this July, which is only three months away!
Thankfully I am going to have a loving husband that is okay with all this scheduling he has to deal with. I don’t know how he does it. Guess that’s how I know he loves me…
My best friend on the stage is easily Alicia, she and I have been though a lot, and I don’t know what….
The door opens up behind her, Dwayne stands there. “What the hell, does everybody talk to themselves in their own rooms?”
“I’m just recording a personal diary, don’t you know to knock before you enter a girl’s dressing room.”
“Hey it’s not like I haven’t seen you naked before!”
She blows up, “Because you didn’t knock before you came in!”
Ann quickly gets up, her face red and angry. His face becomes scared, and he quickly shuts the door and runs, about to laugh.
THAT NIGHT
Everyone is getting ready to leave that night; Dwayne sits in his dressing room with a tape recorder, and a case on his table, ready to leave.
Well, everyone else is doing this so, I guess I will. I am Dwayne Rolle, and I’m black! Actually, I have been acting since I was like three. I made an appearance on the Fresh Prince, Family Matters, and Full House.
Everybody thinks it’s funny when I say Full House, I never figured out why though. I am currently living with Kyle, in his awesome house! Why am I living with Kyle? Well, I got into some debt about a year ago. Lost my house, my car, and Kyle graciously offered to take me in, until I pay all this debt off. It’s quite annoying, kids, don’t do debt! Drugs are fine though…*laugh* no I’m kidding; their pretty bad too…trust me…
My love life…I have been there, done that. A few girls there and a few girls here…Yeah, I’ve been around. I still have 23 contacts in my cell phone I don’t even use…all women! Am I proud of it, no…I would be if it wasn’t for Kyle…Kyle opens the door just then, about to say something, but listens in.
He really helped me change my life, I used to be the rebel kid, the guy who would do two girls a week, live on the streets by drug dealing and stealing. I was put away for it…when I got back out, and needed an opportunity, I went to Matt…he set me up, and I’m back in the game, but I owe a lot to Kyle…He’s definitely someone I look up to and…
“Don’t tell me you’re narrating!” Kyle blurts out.
Dwayne falls back out of his chair in surprise as the tape recorder falls to the ground, and bounces toward Kyle, who picks it up.
“Uh, Kyle…you heard all that?”
He helps him up, and gives him back the recorder, “Your welcome, bud!”
