For English Honors 1, we were forced to write a three act play over Winter Break. Here's my steaming pile of shit.
Brother’s Knives
Act One
Scene One
Setting: A funeral Home
A funeral service has just ended. Two brothers exit the room and begin walking down the hall. The elder one speaks.
Rex: He’s gone…..I can’t believe he’s gone.
Drake: The last bit of family we have. And he’s dead.
Enter Lawyer
Lawyer: Excuse me Sirs. Are you Rex and Drake Alexander?
Drake: Ye-
Rex: Who wants to know?
Lawyer: I would like to go over your inheritance with you. Specifically……..Rex.
The Lawyer takes Rex into his office. Drake waits outside.
Exit Lawyer and Rex
End of Scene One.
Act One
Scene Two
Setting: The Alexander estate, named and known as Juno.
Rex enters alone. He wanders about, looking at his home as if he had never been there before. He stops at his father’s throne, and laughs.
Rex: This…….This is all mine. It’s mine now.
He laughs. Blackout.
End of Act One.
Act Two
Scene One
Setting: The throne room of Juno, a month later.
Rex sits on his throne. People flood the throne room to speak to him. A pauper comes up to the throne.
Pauper: Sir……I come today to ask for water and bread for my family. We have nothing, and we ask for only food sir, if you feel so generous sir.
Rex seems to look it over.
Rex: No. Your own poverty is your fault. You should’ve thought about it before asking me.
He claps his hands
Rex: Guards. Kill him.
Pauper: No Sir! PLEASE NO SIR! I BEG YOU NOT TO DO THIS!
Rex: Begone.
The guards drag him away. A man in a suit leaves the chamber.
Exit Agent T
Rex: NEXT!
Blackout.
End of Scene One
Act Two
Scene Two
Setting: A small apartment, just outside of the village around Juno.
Drake sits on his bed. Wondering how he could have gotten in his situation. His own Father had left him with nothing. Suddenly, there is a knock on the door. Drake rises and opens it. Agent T stands there.
T: Hello
Drake: I…..I’m sorry. Do I know you?
T: No. You may call me T. I’m here to speak to you about your brother.
Agent T pulls a small phone-like device out of his sleeve. He hands it to Drake. The device plays back the events of the Throne Room.
T: Your brother has ruined the village. He’s killing almost everyone he sees.
Drake: (aside) Rex…..What happened to you?
T: I have been sent to take you to Juno and assist you in dethroning your brother.
Drake thinks about it. Then nods.
Drake: Take me to him.
Blackout.
End of Scene Two.
Act Two
Scene Two
Setting: Underneath Juno. The Sewer.
Drake and T crawl through the sewer, attempting to enter the estate.
Drake: Blegh. Do we have to crawl through the sewer?
T: It’s the best way to enter without being detected.
Drake: Well it sucks.
T: This isn’t about your preferences. Wait. I see a light.
He opens the grate above him. They end up in the dungeon of Juno.
Drake: Crap……..Looks like we gotta go back down.
T closes the grate.
Drake: T. What’re you doing? T? T?!
T punches out Drake.
T: Like it or not, there’s money on your head kid. And I’m collecting it.
Blackout.
Act Two
Scene Three
Setting: The dungeon of Juno
Drake lies on the ground. Suddenly, the ground shakes and awakens him.
Drake: What the hell…..?
Drake looks to his left and right, he spots an odd old man sitting in the corner. Drake walks over to him.
Drake: What’re you doing friend?
Scientist: I’m praying!
Drake: Why exactly? You don’t seem like a man of faith.
Scientist: Oh. You don’t know do you?! This place is gonna blow! We…..we’re on top of a volcano you fool! A volcano that’s going to blow it’s top at any moment it feels like it!
Drake: A volcano?!
Scientist: I believe that’s what I said. Yes.
Drake: We need to get out of here. Now.
Drake runs to the door. He digs in his pocket.
Drake: Before father died, I took his special key from his room. Oh I hope I kept it with me.
Drake pulls out the Skeleton Key.
Drake: Yes!
He opens the door
Drake: Let’s go!
Exit Drake and Scientist
End of Act Two
Act Three
Scene One
Setting: The remains of Juno.
Drake enters his father’s chambers, seeing Rex sitting in the throne. Rex shows an unsteady look in his eyes.
Rex: You’ve come at last brother! Do you know how long I’ve waited? Ages!
Drake: I do not wish to fight you. We have to get out of here. This villa could blow at any moment!
Rex: LIES! LIES! YOU COME TO KILL ME! AND TAKE THE LAND THAT I HAVE EARNED!
Drake: Damn it Rex! We’re going to die if we stay here!
Rex: Only one of us will die, you.
Rex draws his sword
Rex: Put up your sword brother. We will end it all here.
Drake: You’re a fool.
Rex: Put. Up. Your. Sword.
Drake draws his sword
Rex: I would rather die than let you take my land from me!
Drake: (somberly) Then you leave me with no choice.
Drake puts up his sword, Rex begins the strike. They duel, neither able to strike the other. Finally, Drake manages to put a slash across his brother’s chest and pushes him down.
Rex: How DARE you?! I AM YOUR KING!
Drake: Get up. You’re not done.
Rex jumps back up, attempting to strike Drake, who barely manages to move away to dodge. Drake attacks, but Rex parries it and pushes Drake back. They continue the pattern of striking and blocking, neither able to hit the other again. Drake finally stops his brother, and grabs him by the throat.
Drake: SNAP TO YOUR SENSES YOU IDIOT!
Rex breaks free and lunges at Drake. Drake kicks him, and he falls to the floor. Drake walks over to him, Rex is injured and almost unable to move. As one final attempt, he jumps at Drake, who grabs him and slashes his throat. Drake realizes what he’s done, and catches his brother, holding him in his arms.
Rex: (laughing hoarsely) You’ve…….You’ve done it. Impossible.
Drake: I’m…..I’m so sorry. I-
A tremor interrupts him.
Rex: You…..Were telling the truth? I couldn’t see that you were trying to help me. This place is going to down at any moment….. And you need to leave before it does.
Drake: Rex, let me take you with me.
Rex: To do what? I’ll just burden you. Go. Leave (coughs) me.
Drake: Rex…..
Rex: GO!
Drake: ……..
Drake lies Rex on the floor, and leaves somberly.
Exit Drake
Rex: Thank you Drake………
Rex closes his eyes, and dies.
Drake: (offstage) Rest in Piece Brother.
End of Scene One
Act Three
Scene Two
Setting: A tavern. 2 years later.
Drake sits at the front table, a drink in front of him. Agent T enters the room and takes the seat next to him.
Drake: Whaddyu want?
T: Your services. I’ve got a job that needs to be done and I want to hire you.
Drake gets up and grabs T by the collar.
Drake: And why the hell should I help you, you dirty little rat?
T: Because. I know where your mother is.
Blackout.
Fin.
There's a lot of Deus Ex. I know. I just wanted to get this done. It was written in 23 minutes and 7 seconds. Whaddyu think?
