Does Superhero Squad exist solely to make fun of the Marvel Universe? It's like what the Tiny Titans comic is meant to be to the Teen Titans cartoon... but animated.
I admit that I could probably withstand the occasional episode of Superhero Squad since I've softened (a little bit) towards superhero parodies (dunno if you've heard of the scrapped 'Gotham High' cartoon but I could probably take a season or so of that, so I'm sure I could handle this).
Gotta say, the designs are terrible, but the goal of this show is to poke fun at the Marvel universe, so I guess it fits. Seriously though, a show like this did NOT deserve to get so many episodes (there have already been around 39, right?).
One more thing, I'm now totally lost as to why some people have compared this show to Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Brave and the Bold uses wacky themes (there's a body swapping episode, an episode where two other heroes have a 'fantastic voyage' inside Batman's body etc.) but there's always a serious threat at the heart of it. It plays more straight than Superhero Squad, that's for sure.

The show is aimed at young children who bought the Super-Hero Squad collectible figurines.

Um.... I mean, you're making sense and all, but SHS actually ISN'T trying to make fun of the Marvel Universe. It really is just that bad, sorry.

Um.... I mean, you're making sense and all, but SHS actually ISN'T trying to make fun of the Marvel Universe. It really is just that bad, sorry. When you have the Punisher comparing crime to broccoli as he patrols the streets in a van (and the others getting scared at how obsessed he is), plus stuff like Hulk smashing a hole in the ground, in the process falling on top of Wolverine, who proceeds to say, "No big deal, adamantium skeleton" while groaning in pain, I think it's clear the writers are trying to make fun of these characters. Still though, Brave and the Bold is small potatoes compared to this. This show is crazy. Teen Titans and Brave and the Bold were/are aimed at a younger audience than the other superhero cartoons I can think of, and even THEY sometimes have an intensity and a serious attitude - I guess that's what sets them apart from Superhero Squad. When every character is portrayed as a joke, I guess it's just too ridiculous and what you wind up with is a bad show. *sigh* Doesn't surprise me to hear that the 'toy commercial' insult that shows like JLU, The Batman and Brave and the Bold have been slapped with in the past applies directly to this show.

Yeah, you don't get much worse than SHS. But they're seriously not making fun of the characters anymore than Scooby-Doo was making of THOSE characters - it's just a really, REALLY, REALLY bad show.

I tried to watch a few episodes a while back (I think my long rant about the stupidity of it is still up over at tv.com). It's...well it's dumb. It's aimed at young kids, but unlike Teen Titians hasn't quite figured out that kids LIKE serious stories every now and then. Though I have to say, I was a bit shocked to find a "parental bonus" in one episode. (Iron Man was going through his phone looking for places they could stay...long, stupid story. When he gets to She-Hulk he says "well maybe if it were just me.")
As for the super hero parody thing: yeah, I'll admit it, it does have some geniunely amusing parody moments, but others are...well to say they're lacking substance is being nice. There's no reason for the Silver Surfer to be an actual "Surfer Dude" or for Captain America to go on about the Hoover Dam and the like. He's from the past. We get it. Now come up with a joke that's actually funny...or put more effort into your pardoy.
As super hero parodies go in general: I love parodies of stuff I love (it sounds contridtory, but it's true). However, an entire series based around nothing but parodies is...well it needs more.
On a side note: Reptilie bugs me. Seriously these people had the entire freaking MU to pick a kid sidekick from...and they make an orginial character...with nonsensical dinosaur powers. Kitty Pyrde? Jubilee? Molly Hayes? Arana? Ring any bells anyone?

On a note to PCG, it's spelled Reptil.
The figurines were made for 6-8 year olds, who were doomed to grow up in an age were printed media was dying and they probably were never going to see a real comic in their lives, so the figurines were a way to get them introduced the Marvel Universe. But, fanboys and obsessed children bought them as well, and the SHS Figurines became so popular that CN green-lighted a show about the figurines, aimed for the original audience. You can't blame the writers, they're just trying to appeal to their target audience. No one knows what small children like, because they lack the ability to formulate an actual opinion. Most children will like whatever will make them laugh, and so they try hard to make the characters more....silly.

Don't underestimate kids - there are some damn smart 6-8 year olds.

Exactly! Kids enjoy sillyness, but they can appreciate serious and dark as well (as long as a happy enough ending is slapped on).

Again, don't underestimate kids. I was maybe 9 when I first saw Sweeney Todd, and I flippin' loved it!

It's just amazing how Superhero Squad seems to have attracted some really good actors like Robert Englund and Mark Hamill...

Hm.... I don't REMEMBER what I watched when I was 6.... I think a lot of Winnie the Pooh and Land Before Time. Oh, and Pixar of course - Disney too. I know I was a Nickelodeon guy.... Hm.... I'm not sure if I'd SEEN anything with an unhappy ending. I feel like there must've been something, but I just can't think of anything.
OH! I know! The Happy Prince - that was very unhappy!
